Original Items. Only One Set Available. The M1866 Marschstiefel, were also known as Infanteriestiefel , but Frontsoldaten themselves would call them "Knobelbecher" (Dice-shakers). Prior to 1910, Marschstiefel were dyed black, but with the issue of the new field uniform in 1910, boots and other leather gear were issued in the natural brown leather. This is the second set we have ever offered at IMA, and the first we have offered with hobnails, making this a great mid-war set. The boots have no size marking that we could find, but they are likely around Size 9-10.

The boots are in great shape overall and appear to have been heavily worn during the war. The leather on the toes is still strong and appears great. This set retains their hobnails, worn to allow for easier movement in the trenches. Both boots retain their two leather pull-up straps which are very often missing from these. We can’t find any markings on the boots.

Germany fought in this was for almost 5 years, so it wouldn’t be surprising to think these saw service with more than just one soldier. The backs of the boots are where the leather is weakest, with the right boot suffering more from this.

These are only the second example of WWI Marching boots we have ever offered.. These are a very scarce piece of footwear to encounter from the First World War, especially with their original hobnails. It is certainly a set that saw a heavy amount of time in the trenches, so don’t miss out. Comes ready for further research and display.
